TikTok, known in China as Douyin, is a Chinese video-sharing social networking service owned by ByteDance, a Beijing-based Internet technology company founded in 2012 by Zhang Yiming. The number 1 video sharing platform was banned by India government in last few months ago for several privacy and security reason. The president has already threatened to ban TikTok in the US, citing national security concerns, and the company is now in talks to sell its American business to Microsoft. … The Trump administration claims that the Chinese government has access to user information gathered by TikTok, which the company has denied.


On August 6, President Trump issued executive orders that would ban two apps, TikTok and WeChat, from operating in the US if they were not sold by their respective Chinese parent companies by September 15. … Last week Instagram launched its long-in-the-works copycat product, Reels, in the US.

Is TikTok dangerous?
Stranger danger. According to its community guidelines, TikTok is “deeply committed” to child safety and has “zero tolerance” for behaviour that could lead to child abuse or sexual exploitation.

Officials at TikTok declined to comment on any of the possible enforcement actions aimed at the company. TikTok says that its data on American users is mostly stored in the U.S. and that it has never turned over any information on U.S. users to Chinese authorities.
